I love to teach about cultivating a Discerning Mindset. Discernment allows us to make intentional choices based on alignment, rather than fear. A discerning mindset isn’t about rejecting opportunities—it’s about recognizing that the right opportunities exist and that patience and strategy will lead us to them.

When we shift our thinking from scarcity to discernment, we create space for what truly aligns with our expertise and vision. This requires patience, confidence in our work, a clear understanding of our ideal client, and a solid marketing and networking plan.  Discernment quite often leads to abundance and success.

How to Cultivate Discernment in Your Business

  1. Reframe Your Perspective – Instead of thinking, What if I never get another chance? ask yourself, What if a better opportunity is just around the corner? By actively marketing and networking, you’ll connect with your ideal clients.

  2. Trust Your Value – Your skills, expertise, and experience will continue to attract the right opportunities. Define and refine your ideal client profile so you can confidently say no to those who need a different person or other resources.

  3. Set Clear Boundaries – Saying no to what does not align with the vision for your business creates space for what does. Protecting your time and energy ensures you can commit fully to the right projects and clients.

  4. Reflect on Past Experiences – Think about times when saying no led to better opportunities down the line. Conversely, consider how saying yes to misaligned work affected your business and well-being.

  5. Surround Yourself with Discerning Business Thinkers – Engage with professionals who reinforce confidence and discernment in business decisions. Avoid those who encourage taking on everything out of fear, as they may be projecting their own scarcity mindset onto you.
